Description
An anemometer or wind meter is a device used for measuring air flow and its direction. It is a common weather station instrument that has changed little since its invention in the 15th century and is capable of standing up to hurricane-force winds, yet is sensitive to the lightest breeze. There are many types of anemometers, including cup, vane, hot-wire, sonic and others, each offering specific advantages and disadvantages. In example, sonic anemometers have no moving mechanical parts and are able to perform accurate three dimensional airflow measurements.
