Description
Capable of taking accurate temperatures up to a 1000 °C, non-contact infrared (IR) thermometers (sometimes known as infrared pyrometers), visual IR thermometers and contact thermometers are designed for rapid measurement of surface temperatures in hard-to-reach or hazardous areas. The most basic design consists of a lens to focus the infrared thermal radiation on to a detector, which converts the radiant power to an electrical signal that can be displayed in units of temperature after being compensated for ambient temperature.
